Hey Cowgirl Fans! Here is an update from MWC Player of the Year Aubrey Vandiver about her professional basketball adventures!!

Cowgirl Fans,
From September until April I was in Spain playing basketball. I spent the first three months with Gran Canaria and after that I played for Uni Tenerife from December until April. Both teams are located in the Canary Islands, off the coast of mainland Spain. Being on an island was amazing as the beach wasn’t too far. But man, sitting on a beach all day was really hard work lol. Playing for Uni-Tenerife was a great experience. I was able to incorporate the things I learned while playing at Wyoming, as well as drawing upon the words of Coach Joe, Coach Katie, Coach G, and Coach Kristin when times weren’t the greatest. Playing at that level was challenging but pushed everyone to be better. There was another American on the team, Melissa Goodall, and she was absolutely awesome to live with and play with!!

Our team finished with a winning record and beat some of the top teams above us. We just missed out on the playoffs, but overall the season was successful because we continued to improve. My teammates were crazy fun and it was really neat meeting a lot of new people, as well as traveling to all the various cities in Spain. When I was with Gran Canaria, it was cool playing against some of the teams we played because they had WNBA players like Lauren Jackson and Dewanna Bonner, amongst many others and being on the same court with them was pretty sweet.

Besides missing my family a ton, the thing I probably missed the most was playing at UW and our fans. Also the milk because the milk tastes way different over there. Oh and I definitely missed Ashley Sickel’s dancing haha. Playing for Wyoming was a great honor and the camaderie at the college and professional level are so different. It was great fun following the team online and seeing how they progressed. Next year will be a blast to watch! Also from being overseas, I know that Wyoming not only has the best fans in the country, but in the world! Laramie is a special place and the people living there make it special. All in all, the experience was a fantastic one where I got to grow as a player and person. Gooddluck to the team next year and GO COWGIRLS!!!
